And what did Mr. Ratan Tata see when he tried logging into his own companies official website http://www.tcs.com this morning? ‘This domain name is for sale’ flashing both in English and French. Definitely not a great start for TCS today as it is reported to have come under hackers control for a few hours till 7 am this morning. The irony is that Tata Consultancy Services is a forerunner in producing security systems, for others of course. Maybe they forgot installing one themselves; luckily to save their hats it is said that it was a DNS hijack and nothing to do with their own flaws in security.
The TCS website hijack incident similar to the attack on Twitter.com and techcrunch.com earlier this year is said to have been
directed at the domain registrar, network solutions, which is positioned among the top 5 domains name registrar managing more than 6.4 million domains. Whatever the issue the hackers are having great fun trying to create a niche name by hacking telecom regulators site and top government websites as well.
Has the internet grown more insecure or are the hackers having their best time by taking control of sites which is getting them quiet a lot of exposure no doubt. Cyber attacks are common these days but attacks on such IT giants like tcs.com is something to consider very seriously. This gives the common man goose bumps thinking of how transparent his sites or email ids can be in a hackers point of view.
