Love Aaj Kal is all about the magic of love yesterday (Kal) and today(Aaj) brought to you by the popular director of “Jab We Met” , Imtiaz Ali. Love as in two generations – yesterday and today. The practical love story of today (2009) versus the emotional one of yesterday(1965) is what the film brings out so beautifully.

Bridging the gap across two generations is this peppy, racy love story of the 2009 as against the sober, emotional, innocent couple from the 1965s. Set in two different locales the film takes you through Delhi, Calcutta (Kolkata) and London.

The singers of the songs are a talented lot including Neeraj Shridhar, Sunidhi Chauhan, Mohit Chauhan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and K K. The costumes for the film Love Aaj Kal is done by Dolly Ahluwalia and Anahita Shroff Adajania.

The love story of Love Aaj Kal

The fast paced generation of today is played by Saif Ali Khan (Jai) and Deepika Padukone (Meera). Based in London love for the two is spending time with each other and having fun. Love for them does not mean commitment and a long lasting relationship. They have a great time together and with a little twist that life brings across the two decide to go the way life takes them. “These Heer-Ranjha, Romeo-Juliet type janam janam ka saath type couples exist only in story books”, Jai says. Now that says it all. The attitude the approach towards life and love of today (Aaj)is all evident from one single line.

On the other hand is the love story based in the 1965 of Veer and Harleen. Veer again is played by Saif Ali Khan. ‘Is janam mein aur har janam mein… yehi meri votti banegi – Harleen Kaur”, declares Veer Singh. Veer is a study in contrast as compared to the non-commital Jai who takes life very lightly and just cannot get serious about anything. Veer is a passionate, loving man who reflects the rich Indian culture and its age old values ( wonder where all that has disappeared in today’s times where casual relationships and love affairs have become the trend of the times). For Veer love is a lasting relationship and you live and die for love.

Love Aaj Kal – a complete package

The film directed by Imtiaz Ali of “Jab We Met” fame puts across a serious thought in a fun way that is likely to be appreciated and liked by the audience. Remember Jab We Met, I consider that Kareena’s best role ever. Kareena and Shahid took away our hearts. Going by Jab We Met and how the director handled a simple love story and gave it a whole new dimension, he seems to have a potential to capture the hearts of his audience.
