COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) - Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have received a simple request while they honeymoon in the Maldives - the residents of the Indian Ocean country want to say "hello" to them.
"People would really love to meet them, show their culture and say 'hello' at the least," chief government spokesman Mohamed Hussain Shareef said by phone from the capital Male on Wednesday.
The couple married in a 15th-century castle in Italy at the weekend and are honeymooning in the Maldives, an archipelago of 1,192 islands famed for its beaches and luxury resorts.
Shareef said the couple were staying on a yacht anchored near Male.
"People are really curious and they feel they should show some of their culture, especially dancing," Shareef said.
It was not immediately known if the couple have been formally asked to meet with local people.
"We understand they may be planning to do island hopping," Shareef said. |
