by Hema Manchanda    2009-07-02

GAY'S ARE HAPPY ON THE HISTORIC JUDGMENT OF SUPREME COURT.

19th century colonial law that treats home sexual activity as a crime is now vanished from the Indian law. The Supreme Court has amended section 377 of the IPC, which has a provision for up to life imprisonment for indulging in unnatural sex. Because of section 377 of Indian penal court the lesbians, gay men, bisexual, transgender and inter sexed people were criminals. This section was used to arrest prosecute, terrorize and blackmail sexual minorities. The law needs to amend because it has strengthened hatred and abuse for the lesbians,

gay men, bisexual, transgender and inter sexed people.

Today the Supreme Court has delivered the most awaited verdict in favor of queer people. They are celebrating the decision because from now onwards no one can discriminate them on legal grounds in India. They have their pride, dignity and right to be different from already created society norms of gender and sexually "correct" behavior.

Earlier the word queer was used to insult marginalized people but with this verdict every citizen has equal rights. According to the Article 21 of Indian constitution every citizen of India that opportunity of life and is equal before the law and the 377 of IPC violets the article 21 .So the struggle of lesbians, gay men, bisexual, transgender and inter sexed people is over now and no one can mocked, demeaned and denied their basic human rights of self expression from now onwards and can live on equal grounds within the society. The verdict has given relaxation to all sexual minorities and the era of unintended consequences of honest mix-ups is over now.
