Requirements for Cover Drive Cricket Game

Operating System

Cover Drive has been tested on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. A 1Ghz or faster computer is recommended.

Java

Java 1.1 or better is required to play Cover Drive (we recommend a recent version where possible for the best experience).

Connection

Broadband is recommended, but if you are patient you can run the game on a dial-up connection.

We have incorporated caching technology so that subsequent visits to the game will leave you waiting less time.

Firewall

If you have a firewall installed on your computer (for example, Zone Alarm, Norton etc), please ensure that Java is able to make an outgoing TCP connection (ports 43600 and 43601) to the Internet.

Controls in Cover Drive Cricket Game

Cover drive features intuitive mouse control. When batting, you simply click on the area of the screen relating to the direction that you'd like to swing your bat!

Technology

Webcogs developed a software-based 3D engine to render the geometry and textures. Given the constraints of rendering entirely in software, the output was acceptable and allowed us to support older machines at the time that might only be running Java 1.1.

Also developed were server-side technologies for handling player chat, player profiles and high scores.

Cover Drive was our first foray into the casual online games market. It was designed to be fun to play, playable in a web browser and 3D.

Cover Drive has proved popular amongst cricket fans and is presently ad-supported. It includes integrated chat, a choice of 11 teams, five batting styles and score/batting average tracking.
