In this article I will be providing brief info on some behavioural problems found in young children .
1) AUTISM :
Autism is a behavioral disorder affecting children .It is a
predominately a male disorder. Autism affects all aspects of child's
development. .It affects social development , speech development, movement
& intellect. Common symptom of Autism is ECHOLALIA . Echolalia is a speech
disorder in which a person repeats without understanding what some one else is
saying.
There are two theories which explain the cause of Autism.
a) PSYCHOGENIC THEORY:
According to this theory Autism is reaction to parental
rejections, indifference & lack of love during crucial period of
development. Such reaction are so traumatic that the infant goes into world of
fantasy.
b)BIOGENIC THEORY:
According to this theory Autism is caused by genetic or
physical defects to brain during prenatal development.
2) TEMPER -TANTRUMS :
Temper-tantrums are uncontrolled outbursts of anger. Such behavior may include
hitting, kicking, biting & throwing things about. Temper-tantrums are a
normal stage in the development of emotional control .it is an attempt by the
child at controlling or dominating the enviornment & his parents .He may
show temper when he fails to achieve what he wants or when he wants to seek his
/ her parents attention. So temper-tantrums are not considered problem behavior
for preschool-age children. However temper-tantrums persist beyond this age,
they become problem behavior.
3) TRUANCY : Truancy means running away from the home, school
or non attendance at school .It is a behavior problem.
CAUSES OF TRUANCY :
-lack of concentration -lack of interest in
studies -finding school situation unpleasant. -to seek parents attention
& love
Truancy is found more in lower class children as
compared to middle or upper class children because the lower class children have
more learning difficulties due to their Socioeconomic background.
REMEDIES OF TRUANCY :
-Teachers should pay more attention to childrens
who have difficulties in learning. -Parents should regularly motivate their
children. -The school enviornment should be made pleasant.
